Help us raise awareness and funding for those shining a light in the darkest places of our world.

We plan to host this GLO-bal 5k Fun Run annually, with a different ministry/missionary spotlight each year.

Missions Spotlight:

This year’s Glo-bal spotlight ministry is in Southeast Asia.

One of our BCM students experienced their Christlike love for the world first-hand when she traveled with them during Christmas in 2013. Serving in orphanages, leper colonies, and University campuses, D* and his team strive to share the light of God’s love in some of the darkest places on our planet.

We are excited to announce that 100% of each race registration costs will go to this exciting ministry in Asia.

*Name withheld for international security.

The Impact of Prayer Walking

20140306-092348.jpg
My frequent involvement in Christian events means I get the “power-of-prayer” speech a lot. Yet so many times before I go to bed, I find myself dozing off in the middle of prayer. It goes a little like this “dear God, you are so great…thank you for your….um love…and your undeserved blessings to me….zzzz” and I’m out.

This happens all too often. But how could this happen! I mean I have sat through so many power-of-prayer speeches and I know that “everyone who asks receives” (Matthew 7:8). Still with prayers like these I found my relationship with God going downhill rapidly. So I couldn’t help but think that maybe there was a link between prayers affecting my relationship with Christ. Not until about a month ago did I realize the true power of prayer…when I went on my first prayer walk.

My original thought of prayer walking was roaming around campus alone praying out loud (like a crazy person) and asking random people if they wanted to join in. Which is exactly what we did—but it was awesome!

Starting out, I walked with an extremely fast pace, ready to be done with this so called “life-changing experience.” I wanted to run back to my dorm and just pray in comfort. But doing God’s work isn’t supposed to be comfortable, and He was calling me to be uncomfortable. We definitely got some weird looks; the people around us walked a little faster on by. But the more steps I took, the louder my voice got, and the more blessings came to mind that I had waited so long to thank God for.

That evening started with a not-so-quiet girl being very quiet, and ended with a not-so-quiet girl not being able to stop exalting God. Walking through the campus hallways praising Jesus and passing basketball stars, the weekend partiers, and the campus flirts– they all seemed like people. Everyone looked human and they all looked like Jesus. Praising God and walking down those hallways I didn’t look down, I couldn’t I had too much to say. Instead, I could only look up.

Please join us tonight, March 6, 2014, for an experience with prayer-walking after BCM.
  • BCM: 7:42pm, South Hall on campus

ENGAGE 24

Tomorrow, students at Sheridan College are going to Engage their peers with the truth of God’s love through Jesus Christ.

Its a 24 hour challenge, on 10/11/12, to be in prayer and be available to Engage a culture or young people who have hardly heard about Jesus Christ, truth, hope of abundant life, and salvation from the devastating state we live in separated from God.

Please pray for these faithful students.

Please JOIN these faithful students.

Please Engage your world with God’s love.

Sharing the gospel is not a formula, a+b does not always =c. but here are some helpful guides to encourage your Engage 24:

  1. Pray for someone you know has not accepted the truth’s of God’s claims and the hope the Jesus Christ offers. Pray about engaging that person with the truth and Hope. Pray the following verse for other students, and ask others to pray the same prayer for you:  “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Ephesians 6:18-20
  2. Write out your “grace story” or testimony including how Christ’s love changed your life and restored your relationship with God. Share it with someone.
  3. Meet with us on Thursday, 10/11/12 at 8am, in the Whitney building (if you are at Sheridan College) to pray and learn how to use Soularium cards and other tools to start the conversation of God and hope.
  4. Open the Bible. If the person you engaged the gospel with is ready to receive Christ as Lord and Savior, show them how, God’s way, not just American culture style.  (Romans 10:9 and 1 John 1:10 are helpful.)
  5. If you miss an opportunity to share, don’t have a pity party…. Remember God’s mercies are new every morning. Pray for that person and pray for a new opportunity to share truth with them. You may be the only one who cares for that person enough to do so. Engage 24 is not just a 1 day thing.
  6. Don’t forget 1 Peter 3:14-16 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.“Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”

Summer happenings:

It is already the middle of summer, can you believe it!

We are gearing up for the fall semester already, but we don’t want summer to fly by without a few fun and meaningful moments to chill with you: the students who are back or remained in Sheridan for these sunny months between school.

So, we want to hear from you! What are you up to, what would you like to do? A Bible study here and there could be a great way to encourage each other in the Lord during break. We could also adopt a community service project around the area and make a difference for God’s glory. Pair either of those up with caving, hiking, a lake day, BBQ’s, movie nights at the Rosty’s, or an ultimate frisbee fest and you’ve got a recipe for an epic summer. So keep us posted, what are you interested in!

Glorieta is fast-approaching too! August 5-11, 2012 in New Mexico… a great time of worship, encouragement, and energizing teaching to equip you for the new school year!

If you haven’t found a church to plug into during the summer (or school year in Sheridan for that matter), below is a list of some fantastic churches that will be supportive and encouraging in your walk with God in your years as a college student.

Happy Summer and keep in touch!
